Pokhara is also known by the name of Pokhara Lekhnath (Nepali: पोखरा लेखनाथ) is a metropolitan and the largest city ( areawise ) of Nepal . It is the provincial capital of Province number 4, headquarter of Gandaki Zone and Kaski District.It is often termed as tourism capital of Nepal.

It is located 200 kilometres (120 miles) west of the capital Kathmandu and is 185 kms from Sanauli Border (Indo – Nepal Border ).
The altitude varies from 827 metres (2,713 feet) in the southern part to 1,740 metres (5,710 feet) in the north.The Annapurna Range with three of the ten highest mountains in the world — Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I and Manaslu — is within 15 – 35 miles of the valley.

Phewa Lake in Pokhara.
Located in the centre of the city, Phewa lake is the second largest lake in Nepal.The lake includes a Temple island in its centre. Tal Barahi Temple, dedicated to lord Vishnu can be reached by boat. Along the lakeside contains numerous hotels, restaurants, shopping stores and is a popular tourist spot. The lakeside is supposedly one of the best tourist spots in the country.Pokhara Lekhnath is home to many Gurkha soldiers. It is the most expensive place in Nepal after Namche Bazaar. is often referred to as the tourism capital of Nepal.

with three of the ten highest mountains in the world — Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I and Manaslu — is within 15 – 35 miles of the valley.Due to its proximity to the Annapurna mountain range, the city is a base for trekkers undertaking the Annapurna Circuit through the Annapurna Conservation Area region of the Annapurna ranges in the Himalayas.

It is dedicated to mountaineering and its history and is one of the best museum of this type in the world. The museum gives you description of the people living in the Himalayas and descriptions of the 14 highest peaks and their most famous expeditions. It also includes some exhibits from other mountain areas such as Slovenia and Japan.
